Robin was my first "boss" in 1969. He was my mentor. He loved his work. He enjoyed helping others . I agreed to work for him after graduationg in 1969, for one year or so as I explored career options. He taught me a Heck of a lot.
I ended up spending 26 years at Colgate. We wrote the financial aid packages for thousands of prospective and continuing students before I moved on to work for Ray Krehel.
Robin actually wrote a letter awarding me an alumni war memorial scholarship in 1964 (which I declined, to attend Cornell). But in 1968 , when I applied for the Master's program at Colgate, Robin still remembered me. And he laughed when I pulled out the award letter that he had signed when I applied for a work study job with him and Guy Martin in admissins and student aid.

Robin was a truly fine person to work with and for. He loved to doodle , tell stories, and he worked hard at his profession. He trained numerous financial aid officers over the many years he served Colgate. His door was always open to counsel members of the community as well as students from other colleges on the intracacies of financial aid. He always made sure that Colgate received the maximum amount of aid from government and private sources for "his" students. He was fair and spread limited recources effectively to enable the greatest number of students to continue their studies and to thrive at the University.

Robin said that he learned never to try to "get away" with any chicanery or mischief when he was a student or when he competed in sports ( because someone always would remember that it was "that red-headed kid " who was involved).

He loved Colgate almost as much as he loved his family --a love that endured, provided mutual support, and withstood many challenges.
I am eternally grateful to Robin, and will miss him. And I am so sorry for his family's great loss. Robin once said to me at a funeral of a mutual friend's parent, " No one is ever ready to lose a parent." And that's the truth.

Sad to read of Robin's passing. He was the single most significant person in helping me to get through and graduate from Colgate. Just a great guy! Fortunately for me, I saw him at many Colgate games over the years and was able to tell him personally of my appreciation for "investing" in me. My sincere condolences to Robin's children and family.
