Obituary

John Chrisbacher, age 81,of Smyrna, NY, passed away peacefully March 4, 2019 at Sitrin Rehabilitation Center in New Hartford, NY.
John was born to John J. and Anna Meitzwiger Chrisbacher in Hawthorne, NJ on February 23, 1938.
Following his dream to be a farmer, John moved to Smyrna in 1964. Little did he know that this move would also include meeting the love of his life, Sharon Graham who he married on July 13, 1968. He utilized the surrounding woods of his 165 acres to build his and Sharon’s paradise. John and Sharon together worked hard and instilled this work ethic in their children and grandchildren. He ran his beautiful dairy farm for 28 years.
John enjoyed any and all things mechanical, spending time in his workshop fixing and creating new things, working on his Ford Model A and Ford Model A Roadster Truck. He was a mentor for the First Robotics Team TRX-145 for 12 years and enjoyed teaching the younger generation about machining and building. He also enjoyed watching the bluebirds and building bird houses for them; he designed and built very special bird houses that can be seen all around the surrounding areas, just look for the blue poles.
Surviving are his wife Sharon, daughters and sons-in-law, Annie and Neil Perry, Theresa and Tony Reina, Jennifer and Tom Thornington. Also remembering him are his grandchildren; Sam Perry, Emily Perry, Samantha Reina, Marlayna Thornington, and Lily Thornington. John was predeceased by his parents.
Private graveside services will be held in the Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna.
Memorial donations in memory of John can be made to First Robotics (trx@trx145.net)
or the Smyrna Fire Department.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY.

Kenneth Schifftner

I am Ken Schifftner, son of Doris (Schifftner) Chrisbacher. My cousins (David and Tommy McDougall, sons of Eileen Chrisbacher) lived a few doors from John (we called him "Johnny"). When I visited Hawthorne, us "kids" would wander over to John's garage. He taught us basic mechanics as well as doing things in a polite and respectful manner.
I worked on his Model A Coupe 9 was about 12 years old) and stripped my first bolt helping him install the radiator. Much to my surprise, rather than criticize, he simply showed me how to remove what was left of the bolt. He also bought an Army surplus Jeep and he drove us around the area in it. Lots of fun!
John would often go, quietly, on solitary walks over to the orchard area that had been in the family. He liked farming...being close to Nature, rather than close to factories (most other relatives worked in or near Paterson in careers unrelated to farming).
John was a wonderful person. I'll always treasure his kindness to us "cousins".
