Dorothy Marsters, 101, of Sherburne, NY, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Chenango Memorial Residential Health Care Facility in Norwich.
Dorothy was born Dorothy Hovey to William and Mary Venetia Hovey on May 24, 1917. She spent her youth in Lyons Falls, NY and moved to Sherburne, NY in 1932 at the age of 15. In 1936, she graduated from the Sherburne High School. On July 24, 1936, she married Paul DeForest Marsters, who predeceased her on May 7, 1941.
Surviving are her sister, Maxine McCarty of Sherburne, NY; her son Allen D. Marsters and Joyce of Sherburne, NY; grandchildren, Paul Marsters of Arkansas and Amy Bice and Michael of Sugarland, TX; great-grandchildren, Jessica Bice and Anna Bice of Sugarland, TX and Melanie Luckey and Brandon of El Paso, TX; Joyce’s son, James Post and Charlene; great-grandchildren, Robbie, Lauren and Brennan, all of Chesterfield, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; her son Duane Marsters on July 18, 2004; and her siblings, Glen Hovey, Helen Laurie, Louis Hovey, Donald Hovey, Victor Hovey and Mary Foster. In 1992, she was predeceased by her longtime friend, Dudley Frasure.
Dorothy started work at TACO in Sherburne, NY in 1948 and continued working there for 37 ½ years. She was still working there when TACO left town. At the age of 68, she drew a year of Unemployment Insurance before retiring. In her retirement she enjoyed her family; gardening; her cats, Daphne and Lucky; and took great pride in mowing her own lawn until the age of 96.
A celebration of life will be May 24, 2019 at a time to be determined.
