Obituary for Betty Tanner

Betty  Tanner
Betty DavisTanner, 88, of Waterville, NY died peacefully on January 4, 2018 after a short illness. She was born in Madison on February 3, 1929 and was the only child of Lawrence and Ruth Stapleton Davis. She graduated from Madison Central School and attended Oswego State College. On New Year's Eve in 1947 she married Charles Tanner in Madison.
Betty served as Town Clerk for the Town of Sangerfield where she enjoyed working with the public for over 40 years and was dedicated to her job. She also worked with her husband Chuck running the Western Auto in Waterville for many years. Betty loved to play cards, was an avid reader and enjoyed party barge rides on Lake Moraine with her family.
She was a member of the NYS Association of Town Clerks, and the Pleasant Valley Grange, the Waterville Historical Society, Waterville Womens’ Club and the Waterville Fireman’s Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her loving children Bruce (Esther) Tanner of Madison and Roger (Terry) Tanner of Waterville. She was adored by her grandchildren Diane (Keith) Peavey, David Tanner (Tonya Mills), Tracy (Thomas) Beasley and Matthew (Melissa) Tanner. Bringing joy to her life were great grandchildren Josh and Alexis Peavey, Stephen and Robert Tanner, Cooper and Morgan Beasley and Jack and Sadie Tanner. She also leaves sisters-in-law Anne Tuttle Tanner Guimar, Gertrude Kelley, Lavina (Fred) Reilly and Ruth Willett Tanner and a special niece Marsha Tanner. She was predeceased by her husband Chuck in 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel) , 210 E. Main St., Waterville. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4pm prior to the service. Interment will be in the Waterville Cemetery at a later date.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Francis Chabot and Donna Pisiak-Relf for their genuine care and compassion over the years to both Betty and Chuck.
