Lester Murray Cleveland, 78, of Hamilton, NY passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton with his family by his side.
He was born September 6, 1939 in Utica, a son of the late Lester Merton Cleveland and Madeline Murray Cleveland. He was a graduate of Oriskany Falls High School and had attended Syracuse University. In October 1960, Lester was united in marriage to Lulu Peckham. Following his retirement from Special Metals, New Hartford in 2000, he worked for Town & Gown in Hamilton for several years, until retiring. On December 31, 1988, Lester married Sharon Borayi Peckham in Eaton.
Lester was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oriskany Falls, and had attended the First Baptist Church in Hamilton. He was a longtime member of the Oriskany Falls Rotary Club, was an avid golfer and loved to fish. He also enjoyed traveling around U.S. in his motorhome and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Sharon; his children and their spouses, Tim Cleveland and Priscilla McCabe of Morrisville; Terry and Cindy Cleveland of Endicott; Tracy and Scott Kimball of Oriskany Falls; Tricia Cleveland and Dean Warren of Clinton; Sharon’s children and their spouses, John and Denise Peckham of Carrollton, TX; James Peckham and Tina Martel of Madison; Collette and James Lawrence of Hamilton; Karen Birch of Bath; 21 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many cousins.
A celebration of Lester’s life will be held at the Kelley Phillips American Legion Post #569 in Oriskany Falls on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 1-5pm.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
